I live in the outskirts of Orange County, CA. I am married to a wonderful woman and we have a beautiful baby girl. I spend my working hours at this really
cool place called IGN Entertainment. They actually pay me to manage engineers
as well as do some programming when I can fit it in.
How did computers come into the picture? I'll admit it... like many of us geeks it starts with games! That was around 1993. I quickly moved on to logging on to every local BBS and I even ran a couple of my own. A lot of computer
graphic work led me to working with HTML to create basic web pages. One day I was turned on to http://www.nrg.be (which hasn't changed since then) and realized I was fascinated with Macromedia Flash. HTML, graphics, and Flash gave me the
credentials I needed to get my first development job.
During my position there I was challenged to learn ASP (Active Server Pages) and SQL Server 7 / T-SQL. I gladly accepted the challenge and was able to implement an e-commerce site within a couple of weeks. All hail ASP for Dummies!
I spent the next year or two developing my ASP and SQL skills. The company at that time sent me to Visual Basic training where I was able to acquire an MCP (Microsoft Certified Proefessional) certification in Visual Basic 6. During my stay with
the same company, in addition to the previously mentioned technologies, I went on to developing sites using XML, XSL, and began dabbling in Microsoft's .Net Framework.
I recently ended my tenure at Roth Staffing Companies after 4 years where I expanded my knowledge to strengthen and encompass ASP, ASP.Net, Java, C#, VB.Net, .Net Framework, Web Services, SQL Server 2000,
and various other technologies.
*fastforward to present day*
Okay, IGN rocks. My main programming efforts are currently devoted to digital
distribution sites like www.direct2drive.com, downloads.alienware.com, 24on.myspace.com, downloads.americanidol.com, and a few others that are still in contract.
These sites offer digital products to be purchased and downloaded. Yes you
pirate, there's a catch; digital rights management. I've developed methods
to handle product activation to prevent our products from being purchased and distributed.
I know, vague, but it's what you get for now :).
